Fill
Rate Test

The
GeForce3 is able to utilize more of its fill rate
thanks to the new memory architecture. The GeForce2
Ultra despite running at a higher clock speed
isn't able to make use of its fill rate as good
as the GeForce3. The Lightspeed memory architecture
is one of the great things that NVIDIA has done
to greatly improve the performance of their video
cards.
Final
Words
Without
a doubt, the GeForce3 is an excellent video card.
Since the GeForce3 is so advanced, there aren't
many games right now that can really take advantage
of the card's potential. The GeForce3 is a high
end card and it's not really a mainstream card
right now. There's no real point in spending much
on a video card that has a lot of features that
aren't even made use of right now. Price-wise,
the GeForce3 is still expensive and isn't really
a good option for most people. For those who have
a GeForce2 GTS/Pro/Ultra card, it's not really
advisable to go with the current GeForce3. Who
knows, NVIDIA might release many more flavors
of the card and thus push the price of the current
GeForce3 lower. From another perspective though,
it's cool to have a GeForce3 in your box. Not
only do you get very high 3DMark2001 scores, you
also get to play your older games with Quincunx
FSAA on making the images look much better but
with just a minimal performance hit.
The
GeForce3 will last long enough until the new games
make use of its new features. It's just a matter
of choice if one is going to buy it now or wait
for more changes. We are all aware of the coming
Radeon 8500 which is meant to go head to head
with the GeForce3 and packs more features than
the GeForce3. The GeForce3 is probably the base
card of the new generation of video cards.
