Being
the top-of-the-line Ti 4200 of Gainward, expectations
were higher than most other cards and certainly,
the Gainward's card delivered very well. Aside
from being able to max out the settings of the
NVIDIA coolbits overclocking utility, it also
comes with a pretty generous software bundle and
ViVo functionalities. Gainward puts a lot into
their cards and their GeForce4 Ti 4200 "Golden
Sample" is proof of it. It was very smart
of them to deviate from the reference heatsink
design and even probably their choice of components
used in the card. While they all look the same,
there might be some differences that would not
be seen upon seeing the card and would only be
noticed when it comes to overclockability and
reliability. One of the best things that card
makers could do was bundle a relatively-new game
in their card and Gainward threw in a copy of
Croteam's Serious Sam which is one very good game
to test a video card's overall performance and
features.
Being
a high end card, its price can be expected to
be somewhat higher than the low-end and middle-range
cards. Now a question comes up: is the price justified?
For some yes, and for some no. Some people don't
really care about features like ViVo, DVI, software
bundles but some people do actually look for those
in a card. There could be no definite answer but
for those who want a highly-overclockable card
with a healthy software bundle, and video featres,
the Gainward GeForce4 PowerPack Ultra/650XP "Golden
Sample" is the card to get. For those who
don't care much about extra features but only
want a fast and overclockable card, this card
could still fit in nicely. If you're not after
features nor overclockability but simply a Ti
4200, then the Gainward Golden Sample might not
be the card for you. Gainward cards compete very
nicely in the high end market because they have
what it takes to be there and certainly, they've
been doing their job very well.
